Liposuction

Lipo is performed in an outpatient setting using general anesthesia. A punch-hole incision is made in the skin and a cannula will be placed, which will make it easier to loosen the fatty tissue as it is being suctioned out. Once the chosen amounts of fat have been eliminated, Dr. Umerah will seal the small incision. Depending on the number of sections being treated, your procedure may last several hours.

In a private recovery area, your post-op team will help manage any pain and care for your treated areas until you are discharged. You may need to recover at home for several weeks, depending on the number of areas treated and the size of the treatment area. It is normal to see bruising and swelling for 1 – 2 weeks. You can have your sutures removed 7 – 10 days after surgery.

The most important thing to do following liposuction is to give your body time to recover and heal. When you decide to go back to work after your procedure, you should remember to take it easy. To build up your strength and stamina, stick to short walks and light workouts as advised by Dr. Umerah. Keep in mind, you may notice some changes soon after your surgery, but it really takes around 6 – 10 months before your new body shape and contour are attained.
