Feminine Health

Long gone are the days when women are shy to discuss feminine health, either with each other talk less discussing it with their medical providers. In my years of practice, I have found out that almost 70% of women that I encounter each day have issues concerning feminine health that is 1 in 3 women.

Some of these problems include Urinary incontinence, postmenopausal symptoms, vaginal dryness, atrophic vaginitis, pelvic floor laxity, female sexual dysfunctions, painful intercourse, and lack of libido.

As women age, we lose our female hormones, and by the time we are perimenopausal, we begin to experience the above symptoms. Childbearing also contributes to the pelvic floor laxity in addition to the decreasing hormones. Women who have no children also have problems with incontinence as well as pelvic floor laxity. Women who have undergone chemotherapy from breast cancer treatment also suffer from vaginal dryness and painful intercourse which can be debilitating, sometimes leading to marital strife and problems, especially when they cannot be treated with estrogens.

So why suffer in silence, now there is HOPE! Especially for the breast cancer survivors who cannot use or be treated with any form of estrogens I strongly encourage women to talk about it  We are in the 21st century and technology has improved so much.

There are different treatment modalities now available, depending on your symptoms. From estrogen and Testosterone creams, Bioidentical hormone replacement, especially for the Perimenopausal and the menopausal women with vaginal dryness to non-surgical laser treatments for incontinence. Monalisa Touch, which is one of the cutting edge lasers for vaginal rejuvenation, treats incontinence, pelvic floor laxity, as well as vaginal dryness without any hormone manipulation. I was listening to the Brasden radio show the other day, and a lady who was a cancer survivor was talking about how her marriage is suffering because there was no hope, I felt terrible for her,  I wanted to call in and tell her there is now, unfortunately I was driving and couldn’t take down the phone number.

I am so excited about this latest innovation, especially for cancer patients with dryness and atrophic vaginitis, and we need to spread the good news. The technology uses laser energy to deliver tiny beams of energy, causing an increase in collagen, fibroblasts, as well as neovascularization, increasing blood flow. It is a painless procedure of about 10 mins, with no downtime and can be done during your lunch hour.
